After July 4th, the next time you visit the emergency room at Weatherford Regional Hospital you will be sure to here, “Hi, I'm Dr….., and I will be taking care of you today.” That’s because WRH will be staffing the ER with only doctors instead of physician assistants. Public Relations Director for WRH Lucas Grounds explains, “This was one of the goals of our last strategic planning session to move to full on site coverage by physicians in our ER”. “We have used both PA’s and physicians in our Emergency Room for years. This will allow us to solely use physicians to cover our ER,” Grounds said. The situation arose when the only physician assistants that worked shifts in our ER took on positions at other hospitals. The decision was made to go ahead and hire doctors to fill the vacant position”, Grounds explained.
The change will take place after July 4th. At that point, the emergency room will be covered by a physician on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Temporary physician staffing will be used through the month of July before hiring a physician to fill the vacant position full time.
