Weatherford Regional Hospital History
The original Weatherford Regional Hospital, Inc. was conceived in 1959, financed in 1960, built in 1961, and opened in 1962. The original 30-bed hospital represented an unusual community achievement because it was financed by contributions from 939 pledges of some $352,000 and $56,185 from Hill-Burton for equipment. The land was donated by the City of Weatherford.
On October 1, 1968, the name Weatherford Regional Hospital became a trade name. A trust, which owns the hospital, was established under the name of Weatherford Hospital Authority.
In July 1969, construction was started on a 30-bed addition. The construction was completed in September 1970 at a cost of $550,000. The hospital was completely remodeled in 1986 at a cost of $400,000.
On June 4, 2007 Weatherford Regional Hospital opened the doors to a brand new 62,000 square foot facility. Over $3 million was raised to support the new hospital and all of the new services that it would bring with it. The project totaled over $21.5 million to complete and open the new facility. Every department in the hospital expanded and other departments such as the Women’s Center and Gift Shop were added to the lineup of great services WRH offers.
Weatherford Regional Hospital is certified by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is currently licensed by the Oklahoma State Department of Health for 25 critical access beds. This hospital is a member of the Oklahoma Hospital Association and the American Hospital Association.
